Where Were You?
Posted by i.i. on June 26th, 2009 . Filed under: bffs, music is my first love .I was filling the sides of the kiddy pool with air.
The phone rang.
“What is your favorite Michael Jackson memory?”
And then the caller delivered the news.
Luckily,
I was surrounded by the friends who love Jacko the best. We could appreciate.
So

We toasted.
And then?

We poured a little out for our homey, Jacko.
(In all seriousness, as odd as his life seemed to have become, we can all appreciate the powerful influence he had on music. Forever changed because of MJ.)

You poured your drinks on the baby?!
I totally agree–although he got a little strange in the end, his music and his influence on pop culture (seriously, we sang “Beat it” at my kindergarten graduation ceremony, I have a very clear memory of this) will always be remembered.

I also happened to be by a kiddie pool when the news dropped.
Ironic?
At the height of “Thriller” our (high) school brought in a projection screen TV to one of the dances, so we could all watch the videos while listening to the music. When “Thirller” came on, we all literally screamed and ran to get as close to the screen as possible. Absolute bedlam, with all the teachers standing around, rolling their eyes at us.
I’ve always been a fan of “PYT” myself. Great song, but lost in the shuffle of so many other hits.

i sang (and danced) to ‘Thriller’ in bunnies preschool…
now i sing (with complete insensitivity):
you know i’m dead!
i’m dead!
you know it,
i’m dead.
you know i’m dead!
i’m dead!
you know it,
i’m dead.
who’s dead?!
