My Las Vegas Souvenir

Thursday, May 28th, 2009

Sometimes? We all do stupid things.
I went to Vegas over Mem Day Weekend. (Which WASN’T my stupid thing. In fact, I had a magniffffficent time. BFFs, celeb sightings, warm weather, friend-of-PCD freebies. A GOOD TIME.)
While getting ready to see Peepshow last Monday evening, my friends and I were buzzing around the house in a scrambled, [...]

Summer Lovin’ Reduced to Part Time: Danny Zuko Would Take Issue

Saturday, May 23rd, 2009

Each February, when the Northern chill can still penetrate even the most winterized of wardrobes, I begin to look forward to SUMMERTIME. Now, I am sure that every living being on this planet looks forward to this glorious season that injects light back into our malnourished souls.
But.
Bear in mind: I am a teacher.
You thought you [...]

One Year Ago…

(Okay, a year and a week. I was unable to post last week due to technical difficulties.)
We adopted little Iris.

I love her.

Five Best (as in Worst) Reactions to the Move

Wednesday, May 20th, 2009

5. The Bronx? (Mistakenly thinking the Bronx and Brooklyn are the same thing.) Isn’t it, like, scary there?
4. Haven’t you seen any TV shows about New York?
3. Don’t you know the apartments are small?
2. Well, that’s a horrible idea.
1. Don’t get raped.
Don’t worry! Family event coming up at the end of June! This list will [...]

The Letter: Part I

Tuesday, May 19th, 2009

So, after it all went down with Mr. Crazyface, I was THIS CLOSE to talking to his parents (whom I was - at one time - very close with) out of concern for his mental health.
Seriously.
The kid:
-created a fictional job
-was renting two apartments in two different cities at the same time
-created fictional documentation to back [...]

I Miss TV

Monday, May 18th, 2009

So, because I am morally superior and have more self-control than you (AKA: Have replaced my cable bill with my completely-unnecessary-Blackberry and therefore cannot fit cable back into the budget), I have been without an antenna and cable for 8 months now.
And.
Good Lord, I miss it.
I miss Bravo. And MTV’s mind-numbing dating shows. And the [...]

Anatomy of a Dream Actualized

Sunday, May 17th, 2009

(The post you’ve been waiting for.)
Years ago, I listened to the stories of a friend who picked up and moved to Manhattan for a summer during college. She wanted to prove to herself that she was independent, self-sufficient, and capable of anything. Straining our ears to soak in every word, we listened to her describe [...]

I’m Back

Saturday, May 16th, 2009

My computer was dead.
FirstTech brought it back to life.
Along with 100% of my data. Therefore, I owe them my first-born.
For now, I leave you with this. No explanation necessary:

Age Check

Monday, May 11th, 2009

So, I’m at a bar the other night and I have to use the bathroom.
I walk in and hear a shriek: “Ouuuuuuuuuuuuch!”
I see a girl - in a dress - with one bare foot propped up on the sink. She is bent over and examining her toe through tears. The girl angles her head toward [...]

Late Bloomer?

Saturday, May 9th, 2009

I think I’d be considered a “late bloomer” for most of the adolescent-into-adulthood milestones in life.
Working with 8th graders either confirms this OR confirms that we’re all going to hell in a handbasket.
One or the other.
It seems kids are more mature these days. I don’t even flinch anymore when a student says “Um, it’s 2009!” [...]
