Bang-ology: The Science of Bang Fetishes

Sunday, April 26th, 2009

I went to see the Tripping Billies - a Dave Matthews cover band so good that if you close your eyes, you might think it’s Dave - a couple nights ago.
While there,  an observation was made that - I think - will be important for women everywhere.
Men like bangs.
This is so strange to me because [...]

I went to a wedding shower today.

Saturday, April 25th, 2009

Though there are many things that
*bug*
about showers of the celebratory sort,
there is also an undeniable chunk of good there.

Most do more than affirm
a baby or wedding.
It’s a couple of hours on a Saturday to
appreciate
another human being.
To come through for a friend
during sun showers
instead of just thunderstorms.
Now that,
I can get behind.

Love Sucks: The Remix

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

Fortunately AND unfortunately, several of my friends are going through icky, icky break-ups right about now. The kind that just make your stomach twist. The kind that make you second-guess commitment.
Annnnnyway. Music. It’s my therapy. So, just in case there are others out there infected by this freakin’ epidemic, here’s a decent “Screw you/I am [...]

Case Study: Iris the Dog

Monday, April 20th, 2009

Nature or Nurture? After being heavily influenced by her older male cousin, Tobey, Iris has started to simultaneously sqaut AND lift her leg while doing her number one business.
In a study of varied interactions between Iris and children, I have found that she is terrified of them. Anyone under a certain height will cause the [...]

Decoding the Undecodable

So, while I have wanted to say much about what actually went down between ex-TBWSRN and I … “serenity now” has been my chosen mantra.
Partially because part of me feels pangs of guilt imagining this information being hashed out in such a public and permanent way. (Though I in no way can judge those who [...]

Rodzina

I come from a big, Polish Catholic family, which I think we’ve already established.
We cling to our traditions like we need them to breath. Breaking the oplatek, observing Christmas Eve like it’s the most sacred night of eternity (perhaps because it ’tis), attending mass on all Catholic Holy Days - even the mid-weekers (or at [...]

Fairwinds, Butt Pirates of Yore

“President Obama Battles Pirates”
Me hearties, the above headline and others akin to it have been giving me laughs of the lol-sort for quite some time.
BUT
While driving to work this morning, MPR’s insistent usage of “pirates” and “piracy” got me a little irritated.
Somali Pirate Friends, you have messed up my usage of the word pirates. For [...]

Memories from my Youth: The One that Got Away Because I Told Him to Go

Monday, April 13th, 2009

The other week, Facebook did a Sweet Home Alabama and flung an old flame from the past to the present. Though we weren’t technically married ala SHA, we were high school sweethearts and did elope during one very wild Sadie Hawkins.
Because he is, as my friend Kirsten politely puts it, simple, let’s call him Backwoods [...]

You’re Welcome, God

Friday, April 10th, 2009

As I was leaving a breakfast date with Kaylan this morning, she called out to me, “Remember, don’t eat meat today! It’s Good Friday!”
“Oh shit,” I thought to myself. “It is, isn’t it?”
It really isn’t too surprising that this slipped my mind considering that my highest level of participation this year came POST meal of [...]
